Walmart announced that it will now be offering a new low cost bank card, according to reports.

Walmart and American Express joined forces to create a prepaid card called Bluebird, available in more than 4,000 Walmart stores and online.

The Bluebird card is the latest in a string of low-cost prepaid cards created for consumers who want alternatives tochecking accounts.

Big names, including Chase and Comerica recently launched prepaid rechargeable cards, too.
Money can be deposited directly or loaded on the cards, making them an alternative to a checking account.

As for the Bluebird card, the rates are more reasonable than some of the other card offers.
Gerri Detweiler said the Bluebird rates are low and could make the card useful for someone who wants a prepaid card to make purchases online or avoid checking account fees.

"This is definitely competitive," Detweiler said.
The program is based on a pilot program launched late last year.
Daniel Eckert, vice president of financial services for Walmart U.S., said in a statement
that customers are tired of a complex maze of do's and don’ts to avoid current account fees.

Bluebird cards can be used at Walmart and other places that accept American Express.
Users will also be able to deposit funds to the card through a mobile application that captures a check. The cards could also be linked to a checking or savings account or a debit card.

More features will be added in Bluebird in the first quarter of 2013, including more ways to deposit money and check writing capabilities.

Toyota announced another recall of millions of more vehicles for a fire hazard, according to reports.

Toyota recalled 2.5 million vehicles sold in the U.S. to fix a faulty window switch linked to hundreds of reports of smoke and fire that injured at least nine.

The automaker said it is not aware of accidents resulting from the problem.
Toyota's decision follows a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigation into the problem and is part of a global recall of nearly 7.5 million vehicles.

The U.S. recall includes the Yaris 2007-2008, the 2007 and 2009 RAV4, the 2007-2009 Tundra, the 2007-2009 Camry, the Camry Hybrid 2007-2009, the 2008-2009 Scion xD, the Scion xA 2008-2009, the 2008-2009 Sequoia , the 2008 Highlander, the Highlander Hybrid 2008 and Corolla Matrix 2009.

The recall comes at a crucial time for Toyota, which has made significant market share gains in the U.S. after seeing a large fall off due to a series of massive recalls in 2010, followed by inventory problems caused by last year's earthquake and tsunami in Japan.

In the first nine months of this year, Toyota has been responsible for U.S. sales of about 1.6 million vehicles for the parent company Toyota Motor Sales USA, an increase of almost 32 percent over the same period last year. The Toyota brand share in the market has increased to 14.4 percent from 12.5

percent over the same period.

Reporting on the latest recall, Toyota said the driver power window switch side of the affected vehicles may experience a sticky feel during the operation. Depending on the grease which is applied to the switch to reduce tackiness and how it is applied including when it was assembled in the factory, the switch can melt, smoke and start a fire.
Toyota plans to remove the switches review and implement special grease fluorine that will solve the problem.

Announcement on future of Hall's of Broxburn meat plant due
About 1,700 people work at Hall's of Broxburn

The future of the Hall's of Broxburn meat processing plant in West Lothian could become clearer later.

Dutch owner Vion is expected to tell staff, and the taskforce working to try to save the facility, if there is a realistic chance of finding a buyer.

The factory employs 1,700 people. Workers have already begun talks on redundancy terms.

Vion has said the plant will close next February if a buyer is not found.

In a letter to workers last week, management said "detailed discussions" were continuing with parties interested in the factory.

It added a phased shutdown would start later this month if a "sustainable solution" could not be found.

'Continued dialogue'
West Lothian Council has estimated that about a quarter of the surrounding community in Broxburn and Uphall work at the factory.

The taskforce, chaired by Finance Secretary John Swinney, which was set up in July after plans to close the plant were announced, is due to meet later.

A spokesman said Mr Swinney would reaffirm the Scottish government's continuing support to the community of Broxburn.

He added: "Vion announced a phased run down of the site last week but the Scottish government is encouraging continued dialogue with potential bidders for the site to find a solution.

"The taskforce will also work to ensure measures are in place to help staff looking for work after Vion's announcement, as well mitigating the impact on the wider local economy through assisting with the regeneration of the West Lothian economy."
